The general elections concluded in Germany this weekend. As expected, no party reached the majority by itself but the so called Jamaican coalition (CDU, SPD and the greens) will likely govern the biggest European economy for the next four years. The interesting note in these elections is the surge in the right wing party AfD, which doubled the number of votes, as germans from all age groups voted against current immigration policies. The coalition will continue at the reigns of the Bundestag , but the AfD wil have the ability to block some proposals, and they surely will. It will be difficult for Germany to make any progress on almost any front with a hung parliament, particularly budget decisions, just when the U.S. is putting a lot of pressure on increasing military spending.
