The number of armed conflicts is at an all time high. Even though the post World War II period is considered to be one of the longest periods of world peace in modern history, there are about 60 regional conflicts taken place today, including Ukraine, Israel-Hamas and Syria, among others. The first two, have an embedded call option on escalation, and although the odds are still low, history tells us that when tension is high, a simple comment can expand the war perimeter. and the parties involved, to make it a world conflict. Aside from the human casualties, wars are very expensive, and are usually financed either with debt or with economic interests. Furthermore, once conflicts conclude, the winners usually spend more money on humanitarian aid to help rebuilding the losing country/party. World debt will continue to go up unless we de escalate the current conflicts.
