The eternal debate between #passiveinvesting and #activemanagement has everyone on their tiptoes this year. YTD total returns as of June 20th, show a tie on large cap growth, a slight advantage to passive on large blend and a slight advantage to active on the rest of the buckets by size/style. It could be the dispersion or the market breadth, that benefits active management, but after years of almost undisputed reign of passive investing we might be assisting to a change in the economic environment that might benefit active management. More etf issuance at higher fees are also weighting on results as well.
